Abstract
Cloning and expression of hepatitis C virus have allowed the development of immunoassays to detect hepatitis C virus infection. However, currentlly available recombinant fusion protein c100-3 assay, based on a nonstrutural protein of the virus, is limited in its sensitivity. In this report we compared four enzyme immunoassay(EIA) kits from three company(Ortho first generation kit based on ~100-3 protein, Ortho second generation kit added some more structural and nonstructural proteins, Abbott second generation kit based on ~100.3 protein and some more structural and nonstructural proteins, and Korean company Lucky-made kit based on two nonstructural proteins and one structral protein). Three hundred serum samples were random arbitrarily selected from the patients visited and admitted to Yonsei medical center Severance hospital and requested blood chemistry admission battery tests. The positive results by screening EIA were 3.3%(10 cases) by Ortho first generation kitand 7.7 % (23 cases) by Ortho second generaon kit, 7.0 % (21 cases) by Abbott second generation kit, and 9.0%(27 cases) by Korean company Lucky-made kit. The EIA test results were compared with the results of virus detection by PCR method.
